For the first time in CYSL history, a local Coronado soccer team has won the Cal South State Cup title.
The honor for the BU16 team began in the Presidio Soccer League, an organization with high level, competitive soccer clubs.
The Presidio Soccer League provides organization and gaming to over 1,000 teams and 15,000 player members. A non-profit corporation, the purpose of the Presidio League is to provide scheduling for youth soccer teams in the Southern California area and to encourage wholesome athletic development for the youth of the communities through competition, sportsmanship, positive coaching and positive example from all of its participants.
The Nado BU16 team began their 2012-2013 league play in the AA-A bracket of the Presidio League, which was comprised of 7 competitive teams and 10 regularly scheduled season games. Coming in 1st place in their division, Nado BU16 had 8 wins, 1 tie, and 1 loss, with 21 goals for and only 2 against. What is most impressive about this team and their 2012-2013 season is that just one year ago, Nado BU16 (last year’s BU15 team) finished 9th in the 2011-2012 Presidio League season. One year later, through teamwork, discipline, and training, their accomplishments can be seen in winning their division. In addition to the fantastic Nado Select soccer season, Head Coach Brian Hiatt-Aleu was recognized as San Diego CIF Coach of the Year as the Coronado High School Boys Varsity Head Coach.
Nado BU16 entered into the Cal South State Cup tournament in the President’s Division. Competing in a division with 50 teams and 13 brackets, Nado BU16 journeyed through 3 weekends of tournament play, advancing each round of 32, 16, 8, quarter finals, semi finals and on to the finals. The final match was on Sunday, April 28th. Nado BU16 defeated Apple Valley Soccer club in the finals by scoring the winning goal with just 7 minutes left in the game to win 2-1, bringing home the title of President’s Division Cal South State Cup Champions!
In addition to regular season play, the Nado BU16 team played in 3 notable tournaments during the course of their season:
- 1. Nomads Coaches Tournament in March 2013 - CHAMPIONS
